The Federal Government through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has installed a 100KVA Solar Hybrid Mini Grid in Uhuafor, Nomeh community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
While commissioning the project, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of REA, Abubakar Aliyu, expressed the commitment of the Federal Government to providing sustainable energy across the country.
He said that the project was a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions especially in rural communities.
Aliyu said the project was facilitated through the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Fund (REF), which is designed to promote off-grid electrification across Nigeria.
Represented by Dora Uboh, the Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund, Aliyu noted that the facility will power over 3000 households across the community, contributing to their socio-economic development.
He explained that the commissioning comes at a time when there is a strong call for action on promoting safe and sustainable energy solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse emissions.
“One of the critical sectors that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately prioritised upon assumption of office is the power sector.
“His administration is fully committed to living up to this charge and has shown and demonstrated this commitment with this power project being operationalized today,” he said.
He further revealed that the REF had so far aided the deployment of over 50 solar mini-grids nationwide, providing clean energy access to hundreds or thousands of Nigerians, adding that the REA remains poised to delivering its mandate of serving the unserved and underserved Nigerians with clean, safe and reliable energy.
On his part, Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, said that the project ties into his administration’s commitment to providing sustainable power supply in Enugu State.
Mbah, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Power, Joe Aneke, commended the REA for choosing Nomeh to benefit from the project, which according to him, will further boost economic development in the area.
