Self acclaimed Biafra Prime Minister, Mazi Simon Ekpa, has been reportedly arrested by law enforcement agents in Finland.
Ekpa, according to BBC, was arrested alongside four others over terrorism-related acts.
Ikengaonline recalls that Ekpa had vowed to declare the restoration of Biafra on December 2nd.
The report said he was subsequently sent to prison by the District Court of Päijät-Häme for “spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.”
He was said to have committed the crime in 2021 in Lahti municipality.
The arrest was effected by Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Ekpa who holds dual citizenship of both Nigeria and Finland, often describes himself as auto pilot and ardent follower of the leader of the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
According to Finnish police, Ekpa’s activities and social media rhetoric may have fanned the flames of violence in the South-East of Nigeria.
“He carries out these activities from his social media channels, for example,” said Otto Hiltunen, detective chief inspector, said.
Ekpa is believed to be the major mastermind of the enforcers of the persistent Monday sit-at-home in the South-East declared by IPOB to protest Kanu’s continued incarceration.
