The whereabouts of the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 constituency in the Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka, is still unknown after his kidnap on Tuesday.
Azuka, a chieftain of Labour Party (LP), who regained his mandate after the court sacked Mr Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was previously announced winner of the 2023 poll, had been missing after he was reportedly abducted around 9pm at Onitsha.
A resident of Onitsha, who confirmed this under the condition of anonymity, urged the police and other relevant authorities to double efforts towards rescuing him, lamenting that no contact had been established since his abduction.
The Anambra State police command has also confirmed the incident noting that efforts were on to rescue the abducted lawmaker.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the lawmaker was kidnapped while returning home at Ugwunapampa, in-land town, Onitsha.
“Anambra Police Command has activated operational plans for the possible rescue and arrest of the kidnappers of Mr Justice Azuka, Honourable state House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North constituency,” he stated.
