Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has promised to continue helping both the families of the departed and serving personnel of the Nigeria Armed Forces work optimally and achieve greatness.
Governor Uzodimma stated this at the event to mark this year’s Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day held at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri.
Senator Uzodimma said Imo residents owe the security agencies immense gratitude for helping the state battle insecurity and for losing their lives in the course of maintaining peace in the state.
He appealed to the people not to hesitate in volunteering helpful information to the security agencies in the fight against insecurity and thanked some organisations that have been faithful in offering soccur to the families of fallen heroes.
The event which attracted top government officials and security agencies in the state, featured inspection of parade, laying of wreath at the cenotaph of the unknown soldier, firing of ammunition, releasing of pigeons which signifies peace and prayers for the repose of the souls of the unknown soldier, the nation and security agencies.
Earlier in a church service, which held at the Asumpta Cathedral Catholic Church, Owerri to mark the one year anniversary of Governor Hope Uzodimma in his second tenure in office which coincided with this year’s armed forces remembrance and celebration day, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Lucius Ugorji, appealed to Governor Uzodimma not to be distracted from fulfilling his campaign promises to the people.
