Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, has assured that the on-going expansion and beautification of Bank Road, Umuahia, leading to the Government House, would be completed before the end of January.
The project which commenced in December 2024, has been causing traffic snarl around the axis and adjourning streets as different earth-moving machines, escalators and other equipment by the construction firm are busy on the dual carriage way.
The hitherto narrow dual carriage way leading to the Seat of Power, has been expanded into six lanes with each divide of the double carriage way comfortably containing three vehicles.
Gov. Otti who was on-the-spot inspection of the expansion project expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work on the road.
He said that the expansion and beautification work, “is part of the intentional effort” of his administration “to give Umuahia the aesthetic ambiance it deserves as a State Capital.”
The idea, according to him, is also to create easy access for the movement of people, goods and services within that axis of the state capital which connects Abia State Government House from Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of enthusiastic bank customers and residents who had thronged out to cheer the Governor when they spotted him at the site, Otti apologised to the people for the inconveniences caused by the on-going work, but assured it would soon be delivered.
He said his administration was determined to bring comfort to the people in line with his vision.
He said: “Let me first of all apologise to all the people who are going through some inconveniences as we do this work. I have the understanding of the contractor that the entire work would be completed before the end of this month,” Governor Otti stated amidst chants of “Mr. Project” from the happy crowd.
Governor Otti was joined on the inspection tour by the General Manager (GM) of Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr Kingsley Agomuo.
