An undergraduate, Hilary Chukwuemeka Ekuma, has been killed in an apparent assassination attack on him in Ebonyi Dtate.
The victim, was said to be a student of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Uwana, Afikpo Local Government Area.
He was gunned down at a relaxation centre in Afikpo town where he went to unwind.
A source in the area said the victim was at the bar drinking when two men walked in, went straight to where he was sitting and shot him.
The gunmen thereafter made to leave but another man at the relaxation centre went after them.
“They shot at the man who tried to apprehend them but the bullet didn’t hit him or other people nearby after which they escaped,” the source said.
The killing is believed to be cult-related even as the police have commenced investigation.
Police spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the killing.
He said Police have arrested some persons in connection with the matter and promised that perpetrators will be prosecuted at the conclusion of investigation.
