Lead counsel to indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), to intervene on attack of the minister of Federal Capital Territory Abuja, and his public disparaging and hurling of abuses at judicial officers in the country.
Ejiofor in a statement on Monday obtained by our reporter in Awka Anambra State, said the Minister’s behaviour raises serious questions about his respect for the judiciary.
According to him, the action would send a concerning signal to other judicial officers currently involved in any form of transaction with the Minister.
He said after watching the media appearance of Nyesom Wike, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, last night, he was deeply concerned.
He also said it was troubling that a Life Bencher would publicly disparage and hurl abuses at judicial officers with such impunity.
The statement reads in parts: “This behaviour raises serious questions about respect for the judiciary and sends a concerning signal to other judicial officers currently involved in any form of transaction with him, regardless of their rank. Such actions undermine the sanctity of our Justice system and call for immediate redress.
“I urge the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) to intervene decisively. It is imperative to demonstrate that no one, irrespective of their position, is above the law. It is also compelling that far reaching claims on improper conduct made during this media briefings is thoroughly investigated against the accused. Protecting the dignity of the judiciary is a collective responsibility, and this situation demands proactive measures to uphold the rule of law.
“A strong, independent judiciary is the cornerstone of any democracy. It is essential that all stakeholders, especially those entrusted with public office, exemplify the highest standards of decorum and respect for judicial institutions.”
