Police in Anambra State have confirmed the kidnap of one Collinus Onuigbo, a medical doctor, with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.
The victim, a neurosurgeon, was reportedly abducted by gunmen in front of his home in Nnewi on Tuesday night, just close to the teaching hospital.
It was gathered that though there is no information about demand for ransom, the family is already working to secure the release through payment of ransom.
Confirming the incident, Spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command Anambra Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said Police is aware of the matter and has fully mobilised for his release.
“Yes, I’m aware of the kidnap. We have already mobilised for the rescue of the doctor. The commissioner, CP Obono Enaghe Itam, has given orders for this, and men of the command are currently at work,” he said.
Ikengaonline reports that kidnap happened barely one week after the launch of new security outfit known as ‘Agunechemba’ by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s government to curb insecurity in the State.
