The Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM. Igwe Samuel Asadu, has expressed shock and sadness over the petrol tanker explosion which occured on Jan. 25 at Ugwu-Onyeama along Enugu Onitsha road.
The Traditional Ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State decried last Saturday’s petrol tanker explosion in Enugu, which killed more than 18 persons and left scores injured.
Asadu stated this in a statement made available to Journalists in Enugu.
The monarch expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the explosion, while wishing the injured quick recovery.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the petrol tanker explosion in Ugwu-Onyema last Saturday that caused the death of several people with many others injured.
“It was unfortunate that many innocent citizens were killed on that avoidable explosion.
“I commiserate with families who lost their beloved ones in that explosion as I pray God to grant family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Asadu said.
The former Chairman of South-East Traditional Rulers, also commiserated with Gov. Peter Mbah and the people of Enugu State on the tragic incident.
He commended the governor for visiting the scene of the explosion shortly after it occurred for on the spot assessment.
“This tragic incident that claimed many lives and injured many others could have been averted if the petrol tanker had anti-spill lock in the vehicle.
“So, I commend the governor for directing that all tankers carrying petrol must have anti spill lock in case of accident,” Asadu said.
