The Supreme Court Abuja, Monday, dismissed an appeal filed by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, challenging the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly; and the voiding of the 2024 Rivers budget passed by three lawmakers recognised by the Governor.
Governor Fubara was also ordered by the apex court to pay two million naira to the Assembly and Amaewhule by a five-member panel led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji.
Earlier, Fubara’s lawyer, Yusuf Ali, had withdrawn the suit for being “overtaken by events.”
Ikengaonline reports that Bode Olanipekun, counsel to Amaewhule, did not oppose the request to withdraw the appeal filed by Fubara.
He argued that the proper thing to do in the circumstance was for the Court to dismiss the suit altogether since parties had filed and exchanged their brief of arguments.
With this judgment, the Supreme Court is still expected to give judgment on four remaining appeals or consolidate them.
