Ugo Nosiri, Owerri
Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the President of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Igboayaka O. Igboayaka.
In a release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer Mr. Joshua Ukandu, Igboayaka was arrested by the command based on a petition submitted to the commissioner of police, which alleged that he disseminated false information capable of truncating peace and destabilising communities in Ebonyi State.
Mr. Ukandu noted that the command is currently investigating these allegations, and once the investigation is concluded, Igboayaka will be charged to court.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to carrying out its mandate within the bounds of the law, while respecting the rights of individuals.
According to a press release by Comrade Chilos Godsent on behalf of Igbo Youths, Igboayaka was abducted on Saturday 8th February, 2025, at Works Layout Owerri, Imo State, few minutes after he was declared the winner of the fourth National Election Convention of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC).
The youths decried the abduction of Comrade Igboayaka in Owerri by a team of Police from a neighboring state without due process and called for the review of the Security Architecture in the South-East region of Nigeria.
They therefore called for his urgent release which they said is a violation of his rights according to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Meanwhile the Spokesperson of the Imo State Police command Mr. Henry Okoye, said the command was unaware of the arrest.
