The Anambra State Government has denied allegations that it outlawed traditional worship in the state.
This clarification was made in response to recent concerns raised by some stakeholders and traditional leaders in the state over the activities of the state’s new homeland security outfit, Agunechemba.
Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) during its second meeting of the year, emphasised that the the present administration has always recognised and respected the importance of traditional worship and cultural heritage in Anambra State.
Reviewing the impact of the new Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, the Council chastised those demonising and misrepresenting the new law as being against traditional worship, noting that it is an essential component of Igbo traditional religion and culture.
The Council restated that the new law was designed to combat crime and criminality committed by quacks and evil native doctors, particularly those who pervert and alter the core values of the Igbo society, those who promote and teach the acquisition of wealth without work, and those who deceive the younger generation and unwary members of society.
The Council further reaffirmed that the State Government has not and will not outlaw traditional worship and further called for moral rearmament and social re-engineering to restore the lost values of the society and ensure a healthy future for the state.
It extolled Operation Udo Ga-Achi, the state’s new security intervention for a high rating and urged it not to relent. It also hailed beneficiaries of the “1Youth, 2Skills” Scheme during the past two years, who it said came together to freely train 1,000 additional youths.
Commissioner or Information, Dr Law Mefor, in the release said, Council had approved for the acquisition of five mining assets in addition to the earlier assets acquired by the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company.
“They include Pharmaceutical Grade Kaolin Asset, Gravel Pack Asset, Glass Sand Asset, Sand Quarry, and Ceramic Kaolin Asset.
“The acquisition of these Assets will expand the State’s involvement in the Solid Minerals Development Sector in Anambra State,” he said.
