The Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Mr Jude Asogwa, received Mrs. Chinonso Loveth Echegi back to Nsukka after receiving treatment for the injuries she sustained when her husband cut off her hand in domestic violence incident.
It would be recalled that, Mrs. Echegi was seriously injured by her husband in the tragic incident on January 27, 2025, at their country home in Ibagwani, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident sparked widespread concern, prompting the chairman to intervene and ensured that Mrs Echegi was moved to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Park Lane, Enugu, for proper medical care.
After undergoing medical treatment, Mrs. Echegi has returned back to Nsukka, accompanied by the team from the Honourable Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Enugu State, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih.
Speaking, the chairman spoke out against gender-based violence.
He emphasised the importance of supporting survivors and promoting peaceful conflict resolution.
He demonstrated his commitment to supporting survivors by offering Mrs. Echegi automatic employment.
“This is in recognition of the challenges she may face in earning a living and supporting her children due to her disability.
“This compassionate gesture aims to empower Mrs. Echegi as she rebuilds her life,” Asogwa said.
