Ben Ezechime, Enugu
Former Governorship candidate of the Accord Party (AP), in the 2023 general election, in Enugu State, Mr John Nwobodo, has advised Gov. Peter Mbah to match policy statements with actions.
Nwobodo said this in a statement in reaction to the governor’s disruptive transformation innovations in the state.
He said: “My candid view about Governor Peter Mbah’s perceived transformation in Enugu State is that the government is reputed for bold policy statements, but unfortunately, this has not translated into visible results.
“The government is focusing on so many sectors but concentrating on none.
“This, in my view, has made the touted transformation a ruse.”
Nwobodo said that barely three months to the administration’s second anniversary, most of the projects it embarked upon have yet to be completed.
“For me, the government should not embark on projects merely to impress or score cheap political points.
“Every project conceived or conceptualised should be well thought out with a clear roadmap on funding and timelines for completion and operationalisation,” he said.
He questioned the rationale behind clustering some projects in a particular environment rather than spreading them as a means to developing every area.
“The cluster of projects within the three arms zone videlicet, the International Conference Centre, Conference Centre Hotel, Hotel Presidential, and the Enugu International Hospital.
“Again, why would anyone get into frenzy about the International Hospital when one recalls with disappointment that the Enugu Diagnostic Hospital constructed by Governor Sullivan Chime which facility was used as Isolation Centre during the Coronavirus pandemic was handed over to the Federal Government by succeeding administration.
“That action in my view suggests avoidance of responsibility, and I cannot reconcile it with the latest move to construct an International Hospital,” Nwobodo said.
On the issue of security, the legal icon said that the Mbah administration has done well.
“I would only say that the Government has been able to discharge itself creditably in the area of security.
“That said, it is not yet uhuru, but I must commend the governor for his bold visions and appeal to him to match words with actions,” Nwobodo concluded.
