The Enugu State Government says it will henceforth punish any illegal Taskforce on revenue collection across the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, said this, adding that Governor Peter Mbah’s administration was committed to transparency, accountability and traceability.
The SSG further disclaimed a report that a team called “Government House Environmental Taskforce” was set up by the state government with the mandate to collect revenue.
The SSG frowned at the illegal taskforce and vowed to investigate the report, and punish those parading themselves as members of the task force in accordance with the provisions of the law.
According to him the only committee set up by the state government was charged to review some of the options that can help address scavenging as a threat to safety.
“Also to create a structure that allows for legal and recycling process with the Enugu State Waste Management Authority, ESWAMA,” Onyia said.
The SSG warned Enugu residents not to pay money to anyone or any taskforce team that claims to be working for the government as revenue collectors.
He said that the governor had directed that those funds collected illegally by the so-called “Environment taskforce” be recovered immediately.
