The traditional ruler of the Hausa community in Imo State, HRH Alhaji Baba Auwal Saidu Suleiman, has urged the faithful to uphold the principles of Islam by living exemplary lives as they observe the Ramadan fast.
Speaking with journalists in Owerri, Alhaji Suleiman, called on Hausa residents across the state and beyond to foster peaceful coexistence with both indigenes and strangers, abide by the law, and be good citizens, and emphasised that Ramadan is a time for peace, reflection, and spiritual growth.
He stressed that his leadership has taken proactive steps to curb crimes allegedly linked to Hausa-Fulani herders, encouraging both farmers and herders to conduct their businesses peacefully and respect boundaries.
The traditional ruler commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his inclusive leadership, dedication to peace, and transparency in governance.
“During our first visit to him in his first tenure, he made several promises to us, and he has fulfilled them one after another. This demonstrates transparency and true leadership,” Alhaji Suleiman stated.
Alhaji Suleiman expressed gratitude to the governor for establishing the first-ever Hajj Pilgrimage Board in Imo State and for appointing him as Amin Hajj to oversee pilgrimage arrangements, an initiative, which allows Muslims to embark on a government-sponsored pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, just as Christians travel to Jerusalem.
“We are delighted to be included in this government-sponsored pilgrimage. I and other community members have been appointed as coordinators, and we are deeply grateful for this wonderful opportunity,” he added.
The Hausa leader urged both Muslims and ✝️ in the state to support the government and pray for wisdom and good decision-making among leaders, as poor governance ultimately affects the people.
He further advised Fulani herders to avoid grazing on farmlands, acknowledging the hard work of farmers and urging them to graze in designated areas to maintain peace.
