The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), OkoPoly chapter, has inaugurated its newly elected officers to pilot the affairs of the chapter.
The election and subsequent inauguration took place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the school auditorium of the extension site of the polytechnic.
The new officers include: Barr. Oduah Fidelis, Chairman; Engr. (Dr.) John Ananti, Vice Chairman; Dr. Ezekwe Angela, Secretary General; Ifegwu Nduka, Assistant Secretary; Agbawodikizu Emmanuel, Treasurer; Nwankwo Rowland Ntu, Financial Secretary; Ilo Elochukwu, Welfare Officer; Nwafor Ikechukwu, Publicity Secretary, and Obiora Chukwuka, Internal Auditor.
The election and subsequent swearing-in of the officers was conducted by ASUP Coordinator for Zone D, Comrade Dr. Richard Iloma.
Prior to the election, Dr. Iloma paid courtesy visit to the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Awuzie.
He was accompanied by top officials of the union, including the ASUP Oko chapter chairman, Comrade Barr. Fidelis Oduah; former ASUP National Chairman, Comrade Chibuzo Benjamin Asomugha; and the former Chapter Secretary, Comrade S.I Okonkwo, who was also the Chief Electoral Officer in that election.
Present to welcome them were both the Deputy Rector Admin and Academics, Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe and Dr. Uche Onyegbu.
Other members of the management team present were the Acting Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr. Dominic Nwagwu; the Bursar, Mr. Stephen Udu; and the polytechnic’s Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba.
In her remarks during the visit, Dr. Iloma congratulated Dr. Awuzie on her appointment as the first female internally generated rector of the polytechnic; praising her achievements so far, and praying for her continued success.
Dr. Awuzie, in her response, welcomed the zonal coordinator and thanked him for coming to observe the election.
She also expressed gratitude to ASUP members for their tenacity in upholding truth, justice, and fairness throughout the process of her emergence as rector; an exercise, she said, was conducted in line with global best practices.
The former ASUP National Chairman, Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha, thanked the rector for her warm, and also commended the rector for being neutral in that election.
