Anambra State Government through the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has distributed free meals to Muslim faithful in the state.
The meals were distributed to Muslims observing the holy month of Ramadan in Awka, the state capital.
Governor Soludo, who joined Muslims at the Awka Central Mosque, Friday evening, to break the daily Ramadan fast, said the exercise was part of efforts to promote love, unity and peaceful coexistence among residents of the state.
Soludo, represented by the ACTDA Chairman, Mr Ossy Onuko, also said the gesture was a token of appreciation for the peaceful and harmonious relationship that exists between Muslims and people of other faith in the state.
“We’re here to demonstrate Governor Soludo’s empathy and religious tolerance. By joining our Muslim brothers in celebrating Ramadan, we’re showing solidarity and unity. Breaking fast with them today was an emotional experience, as it embodies the spirit of Nigeria, and APGA values.
“Our presence here signifies the cordial relationship between our people and the Muslim community in the spirit of ‘never abandon your brother.’ The governor decided to break the fast with them through us. This place is the headquarters of the Muslim community in Anambra. The community warmly received us and we are honoured to be part of the prayers,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the Muslim faithful, Chairman, Anambra State Northern Youth Development Association, Alhaji Musa Bello Shelleng, commended Soludo for the gesture and performance in office.
“We commend Governor Soludo for his outstanding performance in office. Our praise is not motivated by electioneering, but rather by the tangible progress in the state. In terms of infrastructure, the roads constructed by the governor benefit not only the Igbo community but also the Hausa in the state.
“We appreciate the governor’s inclusive approach to development, as evident in his free education policy, which caters to all residents, regardless of ethnicity or indigeneity. The governor’s numerous achievements speak volumes and is a testament to his dedication to the state’s progress.
“As someone who has lived in Anambra for over 25 years, I can attest to the significant transformation the state has undergone under Soludo’s leadership. His administration has tackled security challenges, constructed roads, and provided free education, among other achievements.
“We’re grateful for his efforts and request that he considers constructing a market for the Hausa community. We assure him our 100 percent support and will vote him to be reelected in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.”
The Muslims gave the governor a parting gift for his show of solidarity to the community.
