Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested a suspected cultist, and fake military officer terrorising some parts of the state.
The suspects identified as Kosiso Okonwko and Augustine Okafor, were reportedly intercepted at Obosi and Amansea respectively, and with some incriminating items in their possession.
Among items recovered from the duo are Berreta pistol, and a tricycle. Others are seven live ammunition, cash of fifteen thousand, six hundred Naira (#15,600), substances suspected to be hard drugs and charms.
Confirming this development in a statement, Police spokesperson in Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were arrested by security operatives attached to the Obosi Police Division and B Division on Saturday.
“On 22nd March 2025, Police Operatives attached to the Obosi Division on intelligence-led patrol along the Obosi/Nkpor Road arrested one Kosiso Okonwko ‘M’ and recovered one Berreta pistol.
The suspect confessed to being a member of Aye Confraternity.
“In another Operation, Police Operatives attached to B Division with some Mobile Police Men of 29 Squadron on Stop and Search by 9.20 pm along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, Amansea intercepted a tricycle with Reg No. BBG 767 QH, driven by one Augustine Okafor ‘M’ wearing Army Camouflage trousers,” he said.
Ikenga further stated that during interrogation, the suspect could not provide a satisfactory answer, which caused the Operatives to search him and recover the Berreta pistol, seven live ammunition, cash of fifteen thousand, six hundred Naira only (#15,600), substances suspected to be hard drugs and charms.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Command Tactical Unit for a discreet investigation.
He further notes that the Anambra Police operatives are more motivated and have been actively working to combat crime and ensure public safety in the State.
