The All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government has come under fire by Nigerians on the social media for proposing to go to Egypt to understudy how the Egyptian power sector works, after criticising Peter Obi who embarked on similar trip before the 2023 general elections.
Netizens who took to their X handle criticised the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who had said the Federal Government would learn power generation and transmission from Egypt which he described as a role model in the sector.
The Minister who spoke during a meeting in Abuja with the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed Fouad, reaffirmed Government’s commitment to rural development through improved electricity.
According to Adelabu’s Spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, the meeting centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy expansion, with a focus on renewable energy and rural electrification.
Bashing the Federal Government for double -speaking, an X user, Obiasogu David, said it was ridiculous for the same Federal glGovernment to also go to Egypt after criticising Obi.
He wrote: “Peter Obi travelled to Egypt with his money to understudy their power generation; he was attacked.
“Tinubu’s Minister wants to travel for the same purpose with public money. You’ll be shocked at the amount they’ll spend on the trip.Truly, Nigerians do not deserve good leaders!”
On his part @AnomalousPrince praised Obi for his foresight.
“The same Egypt, Peter Obi visited to understudy their power and finance sectors but those APC urchins and ronus møröns insulted him about…. Hmmm follow who know road ooo,” he wrote.
@OJAYSPEAKS wrote: “They don’t want to give Obi his flower.
“But after some month and years they’re picking the note Obi has studied and digested.”
Recall that Peter Obi had on June 14, 2022, posted: “I just departed for Egypt on a 3-day visit as part of my detailed study of comparable countries to Nigeria. In Egypt, I am expected to understudy, among others, the Egyptian Power Sector, Education, Planning and Finance Sectors.”
