Security operatives in Anambra State have shot dead a suspected notorious kidnaper and rescued a kidnap victim in the state.
Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the operation occurred on the evening of March 24, 2025.
Ikenga said a joint Security team comprising the Police, Military and Ihiala Vigilante intercepted a suspicious black shuttle bus with registration number RSH 255MS.
“As they attempted to stop the vehicle, the armed occupants opened fire, leading to a gun duel. One of the assailants was demobilised, while four others escaped with bullet wounds.”
Ikenga said upon searching the vehicle, the operatives found a blindfolded victim, who had been kidnapped and tied up. The victim was rescued, given first aid, and debriefed.
Ikenga also said security team have recovered the vehicle and is still operational in the area, seeking to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Ikenga said the command has urged hospital proprietors to admit patients, but report any individuals with suspicious injuries or bullet wounds.
“This measure is critical to the ongoing effort to apprehend the fleeing suspects and prevent further escalation of criminal activities in the State,” he said.
He also assured that the command remains committed to maintaining security dominance through sustained patrols and targeted security operations in the State.
