The Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election in Enugu State, Barrister Chijioke Edeoga, on Monday returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
Edeoga was received by the State Chairman of the party, Dr Mathew Chukwunweike, at the PDP’s state Secretariat, GRA Enugu, alongside state party executives and Edeoga’s supporters.
On hand to witness the event were members of the Ehamufu ward 3, executive members of Isi Uzo Local Government Council of PDP, former Chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Augustine Nnamani.
Speaking, the PDP chairman described the return of Edeoga as just the beginning of the good things to come.
“This is just the starting point; there are still others but with this one duly completed, the job is now easier,” he said.
According to him, the PDP would not take the return of Edeoga for granted.
On his part, Edeoga said he was poised to work hard to ensure the victory of the party henceforth to ensure it wins the 2027 elections.
“I want to state that I am back; I am very happy to be back to where I belonged.
“Today is a day of weeping for some and a day of rejoicing for others,” Edeoga said..
It would be recalled that Barrister Edeoga had challenged the declaration of Governor Peter Mbah as the winner of the March 18, 2023 Governorship election.
He contested Mbah’s submission of a fake certificate of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC and the irregularities such as over voting seen in many local governments.
His petition was, however, dismissed by the Enugu State Petition Tribunal as it ruled that the NYSC certificate was not a mandatory criteria for gubernatorial election.
Edeoga appealed to the Court of Appeal, which upheld the ruling of the Tribunal.
He finally took it to Supreme Court, which found no merit in the petition and also unanimously upheld the decision of the lower Court stating that Peter Mbah was duly elected as the Enugu State Governor.
