Ebonyi State Government has commenced construction of 8km road that links four villages: Ebyia Unuphu, Nkaleke, Echara and Mgbabor within Abakaliki, the state capital.
The state Commissioner for Works, Lebechi Mbam, who flagged off the project on Wednesday, said it would be completed within eight months.
He noted the the project was divided into four and given to four indigenous contractors to ensure timely completion.
Mbam described the 8km road as very important, noting that its construction would make evacuation of farm produce very easy and increase food sufficiency in the state.
“These are rural roads. We have a lot of agricultural activities going on in these villages and when we construct these road, it will help us to improve our agricultural activities which will help us to produce more agricultural products that will help to reduce food scarcity.
“So, this road is very important. Most of our rural roads are giving attention and Ebonyi State has been turned to construction site. Every community is receiving attention in road construction,” he said.
The Commissioner disclosed that so many infrastructure has been put in place by the present administration in less than two years
He averred that 200km of roads were under construction across the state.
Mbam said more roads would be flagged off in the state in line with the People’s Charter of Needs manifesto of the state government.
He called on the people of the state to continue to support Governor Francis Nwifuru in his avowed determination to change the narrative of the state.
