The Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Internal Security, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Tobias Ogbonna, has appealed to the people of Izhiangbo community to avoid any form of reprisal attack following the brutal murder of an indigene of the community.
Speaking to Reporters in Ezzamgbo, Ogbonna harped on the need for the people to maintain peace and remain law abiding.
According to him, any form of reprisal attack would escalate the situation and further compromise the security of neighboring local governments.
It would be recalled that last week along the Ezza Oshegbe Road, a local businessman identified as Chinedu Ominyi from Umuegera Izhia was brutally killed.
The victim, a casket dealer, was stabbed in the neck after making a transaction at a Point-of-Sale (PoS) terminal.
It is alleged that while returning home, the victim offered a ride to another individual, who subsequently attacked him with a kitchen knife.
Ogbonna said, “The unfortunate reality is that no amount of retaliation will bring back our deceased brother. We must seek peace and allow the law to take its course.”
He further explained that after the murder, the suspect attempted to mislead authorities by claiming he was involved in an accident. It was only through thorough investigation that law enforcement agents were able to uncover the truth.
“Consequently, security personnel intervened, retrieved the suspect, and took the victim’s body to the mortuary with the assistance of local government officials.
“We are grateful for the swift response from the chairman of the Ohaukwu Local Government, the State Commissioner for capital city development and my office in managing the aftermath of this tragic event,” Ogbonna noted.
“We are urging community leaders and members of the Izhiangbo community to cooperate with law enforcement and prioritize peace as investigations continue.
He reassured residents that the government is committed to ensuring justice and maintaining security in his jurisdiction.
