Anambra State has launched Operation Udo Ga Achi – zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes in the State to signal a robust commitment to eradicating crime and kidnapping in the state.
The launch was preformed on Monday at Amawbia Flyover in Awka, the state capital.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu, representing all service chiefs, said the objective of the exercise was to nip crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping in the bud.
“After a review of our policing capabilities, we’ve launched Operation Udo Ga Achi to nip serious crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping in the bud,” he stated.
Orutugu said the operation aims to assuage public fears and encourage people to return home en masse for Easter celebration.
He emphasized a coordinated approach involving the Police, Army (302 Artillery Regiment), Navy, DSS, NSCDC, Immigration, Correctional Service, FRSC, Anambra Vigilantes, and residents sharing actionable intelligence.
The CP said the operation is intelligence-driven, featuring stop-and-search tactics, targeted joint patrols, and operatives stationed at key locations with Armoured Personnel Carriers on alert.
He disclosed that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other security formations have been directed to conduct massive raids on criminal flashpoints to dislodge threats and bolster public confidence.
“This strategic move keeps us ahead of criminals, ensuring the safety of all residents,” he added, noting that operatives have been briefed to remain civil to the public.
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) State Chairman noted the ongoing CCTV installations to enhance surveillance, stressing the need for further efforts.
Okadigbo Edwin, NSCDC’s Head of Media, emphasized community-driven intelligence and urged residents to engage with service chiefs to support government efforts.
