A former Vice President and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has vowed that there is no going back on the coalition to oust President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Atiku who had earlier rejected the position of PDP Governors who were averse to any coalition, said that the coalition plans had gone far and “cannot be stopped.”
The former Vice President who is among the drivers of the coalition declared that the members would “adopt any political platform that guarantees good governance to unseat Tinubu in 2027.”
Atiku made this known during a meeting with a delegation of National Opinion Leaders.
The former Vice President who later shared a video of the meeting in his X handle, insisted that progressive Nigerians from different political parties had already decided to work together to wrest power from Tinubu and salvage the country from total collapse.
“The coalition train has left the station and would have multiple stops to bring on board Nigerians of all shades,” Atiku said in the video.
Addressing the delegation of opinion leaders, Atiku advised them against selling their children’s future.
Atiku said that patriotic Nigerians had decided to rescue the future of the country from Tinubu and his cabal who are holding the country to ransom.
He further urged Nigerians to stoutly reject any form of financial inducements in 2027, and use their votes wisely.
Atiku said: “Don’t be disrupted by people giving you pennies or kobos here and there, and naira here and there, and then abandon your future and the future of your children.
“Now, because of that, that’s why a number of us leaders from the parties I have mentioned — APC, PDP, Labour, and others — have come together to say we are going to have what I call in Hausa Sabuwar tafiya, which in English means a new path, a new pathway to a new Nigeria.
“Whatever vehicle that will give us good governance in the future of our children and grandchildren, that is the vehicle we are going to ride on.”
Atiku urged the delegation to start planning and mobilising support, stressing that the coalition’s major objective was to ensure good governance.
Recall that Atiku had met with key political figures including the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, Mr Peter Obi; former President Muhammadu Buhari; and former Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, in a move many believe, is part of the on-going consultations to cement arrangements for the budding coalition.
