The Chairman of Igbo-etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr Eric Odoh, has said that his administration planned to increase life expectancy of the people in the area through proper and affordable healthcare services.
Odoh said this while speaking to Journalists at the council headquarters in Ogbede.
He said arrangements were in top gear to provide free healthcare services to the people especially the aged population from 70 years and above.
According to him, patrol vans and ambulances have been procured by the council ready for patrol all the electoral wards to check the health status of the aged population and to offer healthcare services where necessary.
“The idea is to increase the life expectancy of our people to 70 years and above,” he said.
The chairman further said that in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to raising the GDP of Enugu State from $4bn to $30bn, his administration had keyed in by initiating several people-oriented projects to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of the people.
The medical doctor turned politician said his vision was to see Igbo-etiti Local Government Area becoming the best local government in Nigeria and beyond.
“We are embarking on aggressive wealth creation to alleviate the plights of our people
“By the time we finish what we are doing, we will be the best not only in Enugu State, but the best in Nigeria and Africa,” Odoh said.
He also said that the administration had rejigged the security apparatus in the local government including the forest guards and Neighborhood watch.
He added that this was to make them more efficient and alert to responding to any eventualities in line with the governor’s resolve to maintain peace and security in every part of Enugu State.
Odoh also maintained that his administration was committed to social welfare, particularly in supporting vulnerable groups.
“We are recruiting 1,000 widows to be placed on monthly salary.
“Apartments have been provided for the aged widows in various communities to make life better for them,” he said.
