The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it would introduce paper variations from the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
This, according to the regional exam body, is aimed at curbing examination malpractice.
WAEC said it would be the first time the new examination format, which would see candidates receive unique questions, would be introduced.
Ikengaonline reports that the 2025 WASSCE is scheduled to commence from April 24 and end June 20.
WAEC Head of the Nigeria National Office, Dr Amos Dangut announced this during a press conference Thursday in Lagos.
He expressed the Council’s commitment to integrating modern technology in examination administration.
He said: “As an organization that believes in the use of modern Information and Communications Technology, we are excited to introduce Computer-based WASSCE for School Candidates,” he stated.
“From this year onwards, no two candidates will have the same questions, which is a significant step towards upholding academic integrity.”
According to WAEC, a total of 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools, will be sitting for the 2025 WASSCE.
The figure represents a gender distribution of 979,228 males and 994,025 females.
WAEC re-stated its zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice, warned candidates and schools to shun all forms of malpractice as anyone caught indulging in such unholy act would be severely sanctioned.
“We are committed to decisively dealing with any form of examination fraud. The penalties for involvement in malpractice will be strictly enforced to maintain the integrity of our examinations,” he warned.
