Speculations about the purpoted plans by several PDP governors to defect to the ruling APC have begun to manifest as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his immediate predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the entire Delta State cabinet officials have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Oborevwori’s defection was announced after a closed door meeting by the governor and his cabinet as well as some critical stakeholders at the Government House Asaba on Wednesday.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr Festus Ahon, confirmed the defection to newsmen in Asaba.
“The decision was reached after wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development,” Ahon said.
Meanwhile, the former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has also dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okowa was the running mate of the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 presidential election.
Senator James Manager was said to have announced this on Wednesday in Asaba, Delta State capital shortly after a meeting at Government House, Asaba.
“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC. We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” Manager said.
Before the announcement, Okowa was seen a viral video in his local dialect, addressing his people, that he would take the best decision.
“Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction. We will take the best direction, the best path for our people,” Okowa said.
