Festus Aghagbo Nwako Library, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, is set to host a maiden public lecture in commemoration of the 2025 World Book Day.
The one-day event, scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, 2025, will be held at the University Auditorium, under the chairmanship of Ven Professor Chinedu Nebo, the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University on the Niger, Umunya, Anambra State.
The University Librarian, Prof Stella Anasi, who made the announcement said the event is themed “Libraries and Information Institutions at Crossroads: Issues, Implications, and Imperatives in the Era of Change and Transformation.”
According to Anasi, Charles Omekwu, a Professor of Library and Information Science and former University Librarian of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State, has been selected to deliver the thought-provoking lecture on the event’s theme.
She said some of the special guests expected at the occasion are Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh; Special Adviser to the Governor on Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), High Chief K. Nwachukwu; and High Chief (Dr) Christopher Ndubuisi (Ikenga Umuawulu).
Others she mentioned are the Acting UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu; and traditional rulers including HRM Igwe Alfred Achebe – Onitsha, HRM Igwe Joel Egwuonwu – Umuawulu, and Igwe Augustine Oragwam of Obeledu kingdom.
Ikengaonline reports that the event aims to explore the challenges and opportunities facing vital knowledge centres, and would spark meaningful dialogue around the future of libraries, role of information professionals, and the urgent need for adaptive leadership and innovation.
It will also offer strategic paths libraries and librarians must take to stay relevant and impactful in the 21st century.
