The planned visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to inaugurate some projects completed by Anambra State Government has unsettled the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state.
The State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, while celebrating Workers’ Day with members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), had announced that the president would be visiting the state on Thursday, May 8, for projects commissioning.
The president’s visits comes amidst the preparations for the governorship election that comes up on November 8, 2025, in the state.
The visit has however raised concerns and fears among APC faithful in the state who fear that the visit could be an endorsement of Soludo’s re-election bid, potentially boosting his chances in the election.
An APC bigwig in the state, who wished to remain anonymous, reportedly expressed concerns that the visit could unfairly give Soludo advantage.
In response to the growing unease, sources close to the Presidency have hinted that President Tinubu might send a delegation to Anambra instead of attending the event himself.
This move is seen as an attempt to mitigate the tension between the two parties.
However, APGA officials have welcomed the President’s visit, saying it is a recognition of the state’s development projects under Governor Soludo’s leadership.
The visit has sparked a heated debate about the potential implications of the President’s actions on the state’s electoral dynamics.
The Presidency has yet to confirm whether President Tinubu will proceed with the visit or send a delegation instead.
