Anambra State Government has sanctioned Blossom Fount School, Awka, for allegedly charging primary school pupils N5,000 to purchase forms for the position of Head Pupil.
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, who gave the school a one month sanction, expressed strong disapproval of the practice, noting that it was completely unacceptable to the government.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh condemned the practice, describing it as a way of “selling the psyche of children to the highest bidder from a young age,” which she insisted was entirely unacceptable under the Soludo-led administration.
“Monetizing the election of the school’s Head Pupil is unacceptable. It amounts to selling the psyche of children to the highest bidder from their formative years,” she stated.
The Commissioner further revealed that an investigation was underway to determine the full extent of the situation and to assess how the school is being operated.
