The Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved the immediate removal from office, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Cyprian Akaolisa.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy Mr. Declan Emelumba, the former commissioner has been directed to immediately hand over all government property under his care to the State Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice.
While the statement explains the action as a result of a minor cabinet reshuffle to rejig the administration of Governor Uzodimma, those in the know say it may not be unconnected to the crisis rocking the state ministry of justice recently even leading to heavy sanctions on Governor Uzodimma from the National Judicial Council, NJC, on the appointment of the acting chief judge of the state.
Ikengaonline had reported recently that the NJC directed Governor Hope Uzodimma, to immediately reverse the appointment of the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Theophilus Nnamdi Nzeukwu.
The judicial regulatory body, further directed Justice Nzeukwu “to show cause within 7 days why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.”
Similarly, the President Customary Court of Appeal, Imo State, was asked “to show cause within 7 days why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for presiding over the JSC meeting that recommended the appointment of the Acting Chief Judge, contrary to the provision of the Constitution.”
