Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki
The sit-at-home exercise declared by pro-secessionist group in the South-East recorded total non-compliance in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State on Friday.
Our Correspondent who monitored the exercise observed that businesses opened as usual.
Also human and vehicular movement in Abakaliki, the capital city of Ebonyi State, went on unhindered.
The people of the state expressed their displeasure at the constant sit-at-home exercises by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) in honour of fallen Biafran heroes.
The markets, schools and other businesses in the state were on at press time.
Government offices visited were also open with workers at their duty posts.
Most schools also were open as students who were writing the West African Senior School Examination were seen taking the exam.
Banks and shops on the streets were opened, while markets and motor parks were opened for businesses.
The city was peaceful all through the day even as a few security agents were seen parading the streets.
A resident, James Ikedieze, said the people were tired of the sit-at-home.
He wondered why the organization will impose the exercise unilaterally on the people.
“They should look for a better way to honour our fallen heroes and to agitate for whatever they are agitating instead of punishing the people they seek to liberate.”
“They can organize symposium and lectures where people can brainstorm on the way to develop the region instead of these destructive actions.”
“If they kill everybody and destroy the economy of the region what and who exactly will they govern,” he queried.
