A former Secretary to Abia State Government, Chief Ralph Egbu, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and declared for the ruling Labour Party in the state.
Elder Egbu, who was also a former Commissioner for Information, said he decided to join LP to support Governor Alex Otti’s developmental strides.
The former SSG, said he had already submitted his resignation letter to PDP Oza Ukwu ward Chairman, in Ukwa West Local Government Area, Bidwell Nwankwo.
Egbu said different factors influenced his defection to LP including directives from his constituents “and personal resolve to sustain, establish and promote good and effective governance wherever it is found around the country.”
He said: “Governor Alex Otti has in two years shown glimpses of very positive and effective governance culture.
“It behoves on any truly progressive minded person especially those either living or doing business in the state to line their support behind the Governor and the government he leads.
“Alternative of not doing so would mean that revisionists, whose stock in trade is to reap huge gains from chaos, would slip in to retard the wheels of progress. Neutrality or nonchalance helps the mediocre, while evil grows into monstrous dimension when good men stay and do nothing,” Egbu declared.
The former SSG said that within two years, Gov. Otti had made some indelible imprints which would continue to stand out as a legacy for decades to come.
“Governor Otti has recorded very meaningful achievements, I am thrilled by the fact that he chose to begin from basic challenges that rob people of having good life.
“Under the administration, democratic temperament has been expanded; salaries are being paid as and when due; life restored to pensioners; sanitary conditions and waste management greatly improved; massive infrastructural turnaround; employments as well as the airport and stadium projects going on.
“Everybody is a witness to the renovations in our schools and free and compulsory basic education; retrofitting of hospitals and the construction of Abia Medical City that is about to be flagged off; among other numerous achievements of Governor Otti.”
Chief Egbu further said that Governor Otti had demonstrated care for the Ukwa nation, hence the resolve of the people to support his administration.
“I am glad that the Governor has shown that Ukwa people would have a far more better deal in terms of development and representation under the present administration.
“We assure the Governor that Ukwa people would give him maximum support from now going forward,” Chief Egbu declared.
