The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has called on the Nigerian Army to intensify its collaboration with his administration in the ongoing fight against criminality in the state.
Governor Soludo made this call during the Major General O.T. Olatoye Special Sallah Luncheon held in celebration of Eid-al-Adha at the Onitsha Military Cantonment, Saturday.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the Armed Forces and local vigilante groups for their unwavering commitment to securing lives and property across Anambra State.
He particularly acknowledged areas such as Ebonesie, Ihiala, and Lilu, which have experienced the dual impact of criminal activities and robust security interventions.
“We recognize and appreciate the Armed Forces and our vigilant community security groups who continue to play vital roles in our collective pursuit of peace and safety,” he stated.
Soludo also extended his solidarity to President Ahmed Tinubu, the Muslim community, and all Nigerians, underscoring the significance of the Sallah celebration as a period for introspection and symbolic purification of the land.
“Let this Sallah period be a point of contact for the general purification of our land—encouraging those still occupying criminal hideouts to surrender and embrace rehabilitation,” he said, stressing that “no meaningful development can be achieved without security, law, and order.”
In his remarks, Major General Adewale Adekeye emphasized that the Special Sallah event was not only a celebration but also a solemn moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s dedication to sustaining peace and harmony while upholding the rule of law in the communities they serve.
“We celebrate and remember the sacrifices of all—including the pilgrims,” he noted, commending the troops of Operation Udoka for their relentless dedication and notable achievements in the field.
“We must be ready to sacrifice, just like him, in our enduring mission to ensure lasting security and national stability,” he concluded.
