The recent attack on Farmers by suspected herdsmen in Mgbuji, Ehamufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, has left Four people dead following the discovery of yet another dead body on Tuesday.
The victims, all farmers, were reportedly attacked in their farms at the Mgbuji autonomous community on Monday.
Earlier reports on Monday claimed that the suspected armed herdsmen resumed attacks in Eha-Amufu, killing at least three people in Mgbuji autonomous community.
The deceased were identified as Daniel Ogbodo, Isaiah Odo, one person whose father’s name is Emmanuel Eze, and Izuchukwu Uzu, whose body was recovered later.
The herders allegedly attacked the farmers while they were working in their farms, leaving one person still missing.
A search party was reported to have been launched after the attack, and three corpses were recovered and deposited in the morgue.
Some Community Leaders have expressed frustration and despondency over the attacks.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity they lamented that the government only mobilises security agents after every attack to collect corpses but does nothing to prevent the attacks or engage the assailants.
“The government is not proactive; they react only when the damage has been done,” one of the leaders said.
Another community leader said: “Our people are already tired and despondent because you don’t know when the assailants will come.
“It’s like a guerrilla war now.”
The leaders have called on the government to take concrete actions to prevent further attacks and protect the lives of its people.
The police are yet to either confirm or deny the attack as at the time of filling this report.
