The Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, Dr Okechukwu Ezea, on Thursday used the occasion of the June 12, 2025, “Democracy Day” celebration to highlight some of his achievements.
Ezea, a Labour Party (LP) senator, spoke at his country home, Itchi, in Igboeze South Local Government Area, of Enugu State.
He said he had done a lot of legislative duties as demanded of him including moving motions on issues concerning the Enugu North senatorial district.
The Senator said that on assumption of office he facilitated the ongoing rehabilitation of 9th mile-Obollo-Afor-Oturkpo road, which is a major link-road between the South and North of Nigeria.
Furthermore, he said: “I also ensured the ashphalting of the Nkpologu–Uvuru–Ukpata road and Abbi to Nrobo road — both in Uzo-Uwani LGA — which were inherited from the Ninth Senate.
“As part of my constituency project efforts, the following projects were captured in the 2024 Appropriation Act, and are either completed or nearing completion:
“These include, construction of the Itchi–Unadu–Alor Agu road in Igbo-Eze South; Rehabilitation of Old Anglican Road, off Reuben Ayogu Street, Nsukka; Renovation of a classroom block at Nsukka High School.
“Also, the Installation of solar-powered boreholes across all LGAs in the district, teployment of solar streetlights in key locations in the zone including, UNN (Nsukka main campus), Eke Ozii (Ogrute), Enugu Ezike, Obollo Afor, Opi Junction, Timber Shed, Mechanic Village, and others.”
Senator Ezea also said that he had introduced several initiatives aimed at ensuring that youths in his senatorial zone were educationally quipped for the future.
“To this end, I sponsored a district-wide quiz competitions for Secondary Schools, aimed not only at rewarding excellence but also rekindling the spirit of academic achievements and healthy competition,” he said.
He also said that he had done a lot in the area of health-care with the view to improving the health and well-being of the people of his constituency.
“In 2024, we conducted free medical outreaches across the senatorial district.
“Significantly, we secured federal approval for a National Orthopaedic Hospital in Aku, Igbo-Etiti LGA, the first of its kind in our zone.
“In the 2024 budget, we allocated funding to commence construction and construction began in earnest in mid-2024.
“And to ensure continuity, I secured additional funding for the project in the 2025 Appropriation Act, which will commence from 1st July, 2025.”
He chronicled several other interventions in agriculture, youths empowerment and employment, job creation, and other sundry matters, saying that as the representative of the people he has always been there for them.
The Senator disclosed that more constituency projects have been lined up as captured in the 2025 appropriation, urging the people to remain patient and supportive.
“My dear brothers and sisters, while I understand that the above efforts may not yet meet the expectations of all, I ask you to consider the realities and limitations faced by a first-term lawmaker, without the expansive resources of the executive branch.
“Still, I remain steadfast in my commitment to the sacred trust you have placed in me.
“With your continued support and partnership, I am confident that the next chapter will be even more impactful and transformative for our people,” he said.
