The Abakaliki Division of the Ebonyi State High Court has court has sentenced a 48 years old man, Emmanuel Nwaji, to five years imprisonment for defiling 11-year-old girl, Ukamaka (surname withheld).
Nwaji, a primary school teacher teaching the victim’s brother, defiled the girl in Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government Area of the state when her mother sent her on an errand.
The incident occurred in March, 2022 in the man’s house where he lured her into.
After the defilement, Nwaji warned her not to disclose it to anyone, else, she would be killed by him.
Two months later, the girl started having discharge which her mother noticed and asked her what happened to her.
The girl disclosed the incident to the mother who immediately took her to Nwaji.
The man gave her N8,000 for the girl’s medical treatment but the money was not enough and he added another N8,000.
A member of the community reported the matter to the police and Nwaji who was arrested admitted to commiting the crime.
But the man denied committing the incident when he was prosecuted.
Delivering judgment on the matter, the trial Judge, Justice Chinyere Ken-Eze, sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
The prosecuting counsel, Mrs, Ijeoma Mike-Ajanwachukwu, said she was able to prove the case with the money the man gave to the mother of the girl for her treatment, medical report and other evidence.
She hailed the judgment, describing it as deserving.
