There is a brewing controversy in the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Anambra State chapter, following the emergence of two rival groups vying for leadership of the union.
This is coming as the State Executive Council of NULGE has taken decisive action, sacking ten members for allegedly falsely presenting themselves as leaders of the union to various media outlets and government offices.
According to a statement signed by Comrade (Barr) Ike Abugu, State Secretary of NULGE, the expelled members forged election certificates and misrepresented themselves as elected officials.
The statement warned the public to be cautious when dealing with the individuals, as they have lost their membership rights and privileges.
It also urged NULGE members to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the National Secretariat is handling the situation.
The statement fully read: “The attention of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Anambra State Chapter has been drawn to the activities of some expelled members of the Union who have forged the certificates of NULGE election signed by phantom members of the Union and are now parading themselves as elected members of State Administrative Council of NULGE.
“After it dawned on them that the declaratory reliefs granted them by the NIC judgement of 29th September 2022 which is before the appellate Court can not translate to their automatic election as State Officers, they resorted to forging Certificates of election with criminal intention to mislead the unwary public.
“Our initial reaction was to dismiss them as unworthy of our response, having alerted all the relevant Stakeholders in the Local Government project; the Offices of Mr Governor, Hon Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief of Staff to Mr Governor, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Accountant General for Local Governments , all Local Government Mayors, security agents among others.
“This press conference is designed to warn the unwary public that anyone who does any business with the underlisted expelled members of NULGE does so at his or her own risk as they have been expelled by the State Executive Council of NULGE at its meeting held on 11th June, 2025 at NULGE ( AGADAGA HOUSE), Awka in exercise of its power under Rule 3 (IX) of NULGE Constitution for conduct prejudicial to the interest of the NULGE.
“The expelled members are Chuddy Orakwe, Ezeibe Kenechi Mark, Victor Mary Anuna, Ifeanyi Nworah, Chinedu Ukah, Patrick Nwalutu Anthony, Okoli, Hilary Okoye, Dorothy Ibenezi and Onyegbada Chinyere.
“By this expulsion, note that unless and until reviewed by the National Executive Council, they have lost not only their membership of the Union but that they have been stripped of all rights, privileges and benefits accruing to members under NULGE Constitution.
“NULGE Constitution is clear on how to become a President of NULGE and other elective offices and certainly not by misinterpreting court judgment, criminally forging certificates of election, media propaganda or support of government officials (no matter how highly placed).
“All members of NULGE in the 21 Local Governments in Anambra State are therefore to desist from taking the laws into their hand no matter the provocation, remain calm, law abiding and loyal as the National Secretariat of our great Union is on top of the situation.”
