Enugu State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), are collaborating in the training of teachers on Information Communication Technology (ICT).
To this end, a two day training on Information technology for teachers has been organised for Enugu North senatorial district.
Speaking to newsmen at one of the training venues, Model Primary School Nsukka, Mr James Eleje, a facilitator of the training in Nsukka Local Government Area said that the training aimed to impart the teachers with knowledge on use of data for information dissemination and storage.
Eleje said that the programme was an initiative of the state government through the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah.
He said: “This programme was organised by the Enugu State Ministry of Education together with UNICEF.
“The aim is to guide our teachers on how to use data for collection of information from their schools.
“Also, how to analyse the information by uploading it online to the Enugu State Management Information System (EMIS).”
According to him, Gov. Peter Mbah, through the commissioner for Education made it compulsory that teachers should collect data for information storage.
“Data is an essential element in information communication such that anytime the ministry needs the information it can retrieve it and make use of it,” Eleje said.
The EMIS officer said that those trained were known as EMIS teachers because they know how to manage information.
“They know how to collect data from their schools and they can be able to upload the information collected to the Enugu State portal,” he said.
He said that the trainees were drawn from both the private and public schools in the state.
According to him, the programme also involved both primary and secondary school teachers.
