The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for establishing the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) to improve power supply in the state.
The union also praised the governor’s administration for various infrastructural developments across the three senatorial zones of the state.
The commendations were contained in a communique issued at the end of its June 2025 Congress held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka, the state capital.
In the communique, NUJ called on the state government to tackle flooding in areas affected by rainfall. It also urged contractors handling road projects in the state to ensure proper channeling of floodwater to mitigate the issue of flooding in the state.
The Union called on the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to improve power supply to households in the state, stressing the need to ensure that all households are metered, and that those without are provided with reasonable bills.
It commended Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna for initiating a degree and diploma awarding programme in Journalism and related Media studies at Paul University Awka, noting that the programme has awarded certifications to NUJ members in line with their practice.
It also lauded Okunna and other founding members of the Media Standards and Complaints Council of Nigeria (MSCCN) for their efforts in promoting ethical and standard media practice.
