The Ebonyi State Government has breathed new life into the long-dormant Ebonyi State Pipe Production Company, located in Ezzamgbo, following a comprehensive revival effort championed by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Speaking in an interview, the General Manager of the company, Mr. Uchenna Otuh, a legal practitioner, expressed deep appreciation to the governor for his vision and commitment to industrial revival in the state.
According to him, the company, which had been inactive for several years, is now fully operational following the purchase and installation of three brand-new machines.
“These machines produce a variety of high-quality pipes including PVC pipes for wastewater, conduit pipes for electrical installations, and HDPE pipes for industrial use,” Otuh said.
“This is a clear reflection of the governor’s intentional and methodical leadership style as captured in his People’s Charter of Needs governance agenda.”
Mr. Otuh also commended Governor Nwifuru for further equipping the plant with additional machinery, including a state-of-the-art pulverization machine.
He explained that the machine enables the company to recycle production waste by converting it into raw materials, which are then reused in the manufacturing of new pipes — significantly reducing waste and improving production efficiency.
Otuh noted that the revival of the pipe production facility is already making a tangible impact on the local economy.
“Distributors no longer have to spend heavily on transportation to get quality pipes. Proximity has drastically reduced their transport cost, sometimes from ₦500,000 to less than ₦50,000,” he explained.
He added that the company’s products, especially the conduit pipes, are already earning a reputation for their durability and strength.
“We demonstrated the quality today, and everyone could see that our pipes are the best. The market is responding positively,” he said.
The manager acknowledged that while not all local builders have begun sourcing from the company, awareness is growing, and more are expected to key into the initiative.
“I’m a realist. We are gaining ground gradually. The narrative is changing—people now know that Ebonyi is producing the best pipes.”
Addressing contractors and builders, especially those executing government contracts, Otuh appealed to them to patronize the company.
“The governor has given you jobs to empower you. In turn, buy from this state-owned company so that the economy reflects that empowerment. When money circulates here, our people grow,” he urged.
He noted that the company is not only serving Ebonyi State but also reaching other parts of the country.
“We already have an Ebonyi indigene based in Port Harcourt who is one of our major distributors,” Otuh revealed.
He said the company is in talks with distributors form other states who are interested in lifting products from the company.
The revival of the Ebonyi State Pipe Production Company stands as a landmark achievement in Governor Nwifuru’s administration, signaling a renewed focus on industrialization and sustainable economic development in the state.
