Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reiterated his support for the South-East zone’s position on the National Secretaryship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), amid growing crisis within the party.
The governor stated this in a post Sunday via his official X handle after a meeting with key PDP leaders, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; Chief Ali Odefa, the National Vice Chairman (South-East); East Zonal Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa, former National Chairman and BOT member, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; Senator Sam Egwu; Iyom Josephine Anenih; Senator Ben Obi; and Hon. SKE Udeh-Okoye, the South-East Nominee for the position of National Secretary, where the party’s internal democracy, unity, and justice were discussed.
According to Governor Mbah, the South-East zone had adopted a stance on the National Secretary position during a zonal meeting held in Enugu, and this position remains sacrosanct.
“The position of the South-East with respect to the National Secretaryship of the party as issued in that communiqué is sacrosanct,” Governor Mbah stated.
Governor Mbah also warned that the South-East zone reserves the right to review its continued membership of the PDP if the party fails to put its house in order.
“While I am still a member of the PDP, the South East – and that includes me – reserves the right to review our continued membership of the party if the party is unwilling to put its house in order,” he said.
The governor expressed support for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, scheduled for tomorrow, June 30, 2025.
Recall that the PDP faction led by the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, had postponed the earlier scheduled NEC meeting a dialogue with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
