Legendary goalkeeper of the Super Eagles, and Stationery Stores of Lagos, Peter Rufai is dead. He was aged 61.
Popularly called Dodo Mayana, Rufai died Thursday morning after long term illness, it was reported.
A winner of Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria in 1994 at Tunisia, Rufai was in between the sticks for the Super Eagles in at Mundial in 1994 and 1998.
Following his death, the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has expressed deep sorrows over the loss.
“We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion.
“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond.
“Rest well, Peter Rufai,” NFF posted on its X handle on Thursday.
