A new coalition of political parties has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 Nigeria general elections.
Taking to his official X handle on Thursday, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi, gave altruistic reasons behind the emergence of the new coalition of opposition politicians.
Recall that on Wednesday the coalition in their meeting appointed the former Senate President, Senator David Mark, to serve as the National Chairman; while the former Minister of Interior under President Muhammadu Buhari, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, will serve as the National Secretary.
According to Peter Obi, the coalition is committed to working together to ensure that Nigeria gets a “competent, capable, and compassionate leadership” that will prioritize the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.
“This decision was not made lightly.
“It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward,” Obi stated.
He further said the coalition’s goal is to dismantle the structures that keep Nigerians in poverty and insecurity.
“No one group can change Nigeria alone,” Obi emphasized.
“To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls even when those bridges are uneasy.”
Obi expressed optimism about the coalition’s prospects and the potential for positive change in Nigeria.
