…Declares war on cultism
Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, has approved payment to the disengaged staff of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba, who were relieved of their duties between 2018 and 2022.
This is as the Governor has ordered a crackdown on cultism and criminality across the state.
Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this during a press briefing in Unuahia on the outcome of this week’s state Executive Council meeting
He said no fewer than 249 affected staff of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, had so far received their payments.
He said: “So far, 249 of such staff have been paid. This is another promise made and kept by His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti.
“You will recall that these are names that we inherited from the previous government.”
Speaking further, the Commissioner announced a crackdown on cultism and harassment of innocent citizens by some unpatriotic elements.
He said that the State Government would not watch idly while cultists and criminals make life uncomfortable for residents.
“To this end, the state government has directed security agencies in the state to swing into action and arrest the ugly development,” he said.
The Commissioner said the State Government would stop at nothing in ridding the state of criminal elements.
“The state government has observed with dismay the growing incidence of cult activities in the state.
“As a responsible government, this administration will spread no efforts assuring that the state is rid of drug activities.”
Speaking further, the Commissioner said massive renovation works had begun at Abia State College of Education Technical (ASCETA ) as part of efforts to reposition the institution.
He noted that various projects such as the college library, the school of vocational education block, the college auditorium, students’ hostels, and school of technical education are all progressing very well.
