The Enugu State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong collaborative relationship with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the effective security of lives and property across the state.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, made this known on Tuesday, during a courtesy visit by the State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, at the Ministry of Justice headquarters in Enugu.
Dr. Udeh emphasized that the partnership would include continuous legal and technical support to enable the police to carry out their duties without hindrance.
He underscored the wider impact of security in Enugu, noting that peace in the state influences the stability and economic prosperity of neighboring regions.
“This relationship is not just for us in Enugu; it is for the people. Insecurity here affects not only our state but also the surrounding states,” Udeh said.
“Someone doing business in Abuja, Lagos, Niger, or Sokoto might see an opportunity in Enugu. If they feel secure, they will come, do business, and return. That means security in Enugu benefits people beyond the South East.”
The commissioner encouraged the Police Commissioner to always reach out to the Ministry for any form of assistance, assuring that support would be provided promptly.
In response, Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa expressed gratitude to Dr. Udeh for the warm reception and for fostering an environment conducive to collaboration on state security matters.
Giwa stressed that Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to expand Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion can only be realized in a secure and stable environment. He pledged the command’s full commitment to supporting the governor’s economic agenda.
He also noted that his office would maintain close and consistent communication with the Ministry of Justice to ensure timely response to any security threats within the state.
