Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.
In a condolence message on Sunday, Jonathan described Buhari as a “notable leader, patriot, and elder statesman” who served Nigeria with unwavering dedication, both as a military Head of State and as a democratically elected President.
“It is with a heavy heart and profound sense of national loss that I received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” Jonathan stated.
He hailed Buhari’s legacy of discipline, courage, and integrity, noting that the late President would be remembered for his selfless service and devotion to the nation.
“As a leader, he was selfless in his commitment to his duty and served the country with character and a deep sense of patriotism,” Jonathan said.
He added that Buhari’s contributions to peace, stability, and development had earned him admiration across all segments of Nigerian society.
“In his passing, Nigeria has lost one of its foremost leaders, and I have lost a respected colleague and elder,” Jonathan remarked.
The former President, on behalf of his family and the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, extended condolences to Buhari’s immediate family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians across the country.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” he prayed.
