As Nigeria continues to mourn the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, have arrived in London to accompany the late President’s remains back to the country.
The Federal Government delegation was received in London by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
The development was confirmed in a post shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Vice President on Monday.
It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had, on Sunday, directed Vice President Shettima to proceed to the United Kingdom to coordinate arrangements and accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
The late Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at a hospital in London after a brief illness, served as Nigeria’s elected President from 2015 to 2023, having earlier ruled the country as a military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
As a mark of respect, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-mast across the country.
Meanwhile, Buhari’s burial has been scheduled for Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, disclosed the burial arrangements while addressing journalists in Katsina on Monday.
“The burial arrangement for our father, who died yesterday in London, has been concluded after consultations with his family and close associates in London. The body is expected to arrive in Katsina by noon, and the burial will take place in Daura around 2 p.m.,” Governor Radda said.
